Don’t Tell The Groom Grand Final | The Result

Last night saw the Grand Final of the “Don’t Tell the Groom” competition, organised and run by Laura Jones of Mrs Jones Bridal Boutique in Newbury Berkshire.

Despite the horrid rain and wind, a great evening was had by everyone. With live music, close up magic from Guy Portlock and some wonderful food from the team at El Sabio, the eager crowd of hopeful couples hoping to win the grand prize grew. The main prize comprised of prizes from the wedding suppliers involved – a prize pot totalling £5000.

The lucky winning couple were Amanda Philips and Simon Miles, both from Newbury, congratulations to you both, we certainly look forward to meeting you both again as we were one of the prizes with our wedding photography.

Bedford Swan Hotel Wedding | Hayley & Adam

I’m sad to say this is another wedding photography post mentioning rain, but that seems to have been what has faced our bride and grooms and us as their wedding photographer over the last month or so.

With rain falling on us as we drove all the way over to Bedford, you may have been excused for thinking “oh no, not rain on their wedding day”. Thankfully Hayley and Adam had taken our wedding planning advice and prepared for the eventuality of rain. They had even hired umbrellas for all of their guests – and good job too, as this meant we could even still do a large group shot of 100 or more people outside. Not only did the planning for rain involve preparing with umbrellas, but also the mind set was right “this horrid weather isn’t going to stop us having the most beautiful day”.

So we went to work, documenting Hayley and Adam’s wedding day from the early preparations right through until the first dance amid the beautiful interior of the Bedford Swan Hotel. Our low light photography was put to a real test here, dark wood panelled venue with high level windows – with not much in the way of natural light available. The reality was a damp, dull and frankly miserable November like day outside contrasted by a genuinely beautiful wedding inside full of love, romance and lots of laughter and with a wedding breakfast room that would depict many a dream.

However, the images from the day are stunning, a wonderful mix of colour and black and white documentary photography. Notice as you enjoy looking at them, how blissfully unaware you become to just how dark and miserable the weather was that day, a wonderful example to any bride and groom who may be really fearing rain on their wedding day.

Engagement shoot early before Afghan

A wonderful chance today to do something just a little bit special. Dan and Sarah are getting married next year, with Dan off to serve in Afghanistan on Sunday returning just a week before their wedding day. As with all of our service men and women, whose strength both physical and mental I admire everyday, this separation can only be one of the toughest endurance tests anyone can go through. To do this whilst planning your biggest day must take the strongest of people.

Naturally we brought the engagement shoot, that we do for all of our bride and grooms, forward – hopefully the images will also serve as a moment to cherish through the long absent months. I’m really looking forward to this wedding at the beautiful Marlston House in Berkshire, but first wish Dan and his colleagues a good tour with a safe return

A small victory against Autism

Photographing Children with Autism

Unfortunately, this is a story very close to my heart. One of our children suffers from Aspergers Syndrome, a condition on the Autistic Spectrum, so when a phone call came in from this particular anxious mother I could very easily put myself in her shoes.

This lady had been brought one of our Gift Vouchers, to enjoy a photoshoot of her family. But out of concern as to how her son would cope due to his Autism, and with fear of being embarrassed if he didn’t behave she wanted to called in to discuss it first. I reassured her of my personal experience with our son, along with other children we have photographed, and explained that I totally understood that it may be a difficult shoot but that she certainly shouldn’t feel embarrassed if it didn’t go well.

On the day of the shoot it didn’t go well, as you can see below. Infact being completely honest it didn’t really even start. We had taken a few shots, but the sound of the lights flashing – not the light itself but the sound of it flashing (they make a little pop sound) was really scaring him, as you can see in the pictures of him clutching his ears, I stopped straight away but as mum feared he went into his own little melt down. He calmed a little but latched onto one of our bar stools at our make up bar, again when mum moved him off the stool his melt down rapidly brought the shoot to a crashing halt.ENJOY MORE PHOTOS FROM THIS POST | PLEASE SHARE A COMMENT

Rain doesn’t stop a Wedding Day

As we approached the Great House at Sonning, in Berkshire, the sky was getting darker and darker. A thoroughly miserable Friday morning in April – all except for one thing, today was one of our Bride and Groom’s Wedding Day, so actually it was going to be a great day.

In all of our planning meetings, we assume it is going to rain and together with the bride and the groom we plan for rain. Naturally we don’t actually want it to rain – but if it does it means we can embrace it and make it part of the day – rather than letting it ruin the day.

Our Bride and Groom this wet, gloomy Friday obviously listened well, and took our advice. We arrived to a smiling and relaxed bride, who laughed as she glanced to the corner of the room to ensure i noticed the bright colourful wells and umbrellas. Perfect. She was dealing with the inevitable slight disappointment of rain with exactly the attitude we instilled n her, this won’t impact on the day and that the day will still be great.

Berkshire Wedding Photographer Accolade

I am not one for normally sounding my own trumpet, but on behalf of the team at Adam Hillier Photography I am so happy, proud and amazed by the events of the last month.

We are a company focused on hard work, beautiful images and a great service – awards have never been a big focus for us. Most of the industry awards are linked to advertising space you purchase – hence we have never entered ourselves for any awards. These National Awards are different, they are what awards should be, voted for by customers and judged on their feedback and the quality of the products and services provided – nothing else.

This started as a huge compliment of being nominated for an award by some of our Bride and Grooms, it quickly grew into many of our clients beaming with pride that they too had nominated us for this award. Yes it felt lovely, and to the team very well deserved recognition for the hours of dedication and the refining of what is a great wedding photography service. However this sense of achievement was just the start as we have now been informed that we have been shortlisted for this National Award. Wow.

AHP Photographs the Matt Fiddes British Martial Arts Championship 2011

What an honour and great experience, photographing Matt Fiddes and the British Martial Arts Championship 2011, images from the day can be seen by clicking here

Our primary task was to follow Master Fiddes and document this special day – a day made even more special as it included a spectacular first live performance by Matt Fiddes in many years, Master Fiddes was also presented with his 8th Dan degree – an amazing achievement, and finally a guest appearance by Nicola Mclean – who I photographed with Matt before the event started. These great moments really set up a great day for the Martial Arts British Championship.

The second part of our role really put our Commercial Photography skills to its test yesterday, covering the championship itself and capturing the atmosphere of the day. A tough challenge when bearing in mind the very low lighting in the arena combined with hundreds of very fast moving athletes.

There were thousands of people there, spectators, parents, martial arts experts and enthusiasts, trainers and instructors. The competitors were of all ages, both male and female. The competition was hot – fierce at times, but balanced with huge respect, honour and good sportsmanship.

It was a fantastic event to photograph, a complete credit to all involved with the Matt Fiddes Martial Arts schools across the country, I was so impressed with everything I saw and inspired by the people I met. A selection of images from the day are below, more can be viewed by clicking here

What a proud day for everyone at Adam Hillier Photography. Today we found out that we had been nominated by several of our Bride and Groom’s for Wedding Photographer of the Year, an award that with our modest approach we would never have put ourselves forward for.

I have been lost for words all day, I am fully aware that we create fantastic relationships with our bride and grooms throughout the adventure of their wedding photography and create images that will live with them forever, but i have been really touched that our clients have gone out of their way to nominate us for such an award.

Having read about this award that we have been nominated for, it is refreshing that this isn’t about a single image – its about the whole experience of working with us from start to finish – this is something that we are very focused on so the recognition is fantastic.

Parkway Shopping Centre Commercial Photography

Adam Hillier Photography has been commissioned to take the official commercial photography of the new Parkway Shopping Centre in Newbury Berkshire, prior to and throughout its official opening on Thursday the 27th October.

Newbury is set in the beautiful countryside in West Berkshire, located on the Kennet and Avon canal, Newbury is historically a small, traditional market town. Over the past years the town has grown in size and significance, and as the residents of Newbury will know, the historical landscape and skyline of the town has been changing over the past 18 months with the development of the new Parkway Shopping Centre . It started with a single crane…….. one single crane

Our commercial photography service will be used to take the photographs of the new shopping centre in Newbury on Tuesday, capturing the new architecture, landscaping, retail shop fronts and full interior prior to being opened to the public. These images are to be used for all of the promotional material and website for the centre.

Then comes the big official opening day on Thursday. We will be photographing the whole event, including the parade of local school children, the opening ceremony and the entire series of exciting events being held throughout the day to mark this exciting day for the new look Newbury town centre.

We have also been commissioned to cover other events happening in and around the new shopping centre throughout the week. It is a fantastic achievement, a great commission for the team at Adam Hillier Photography. The images will be posted in due course.

Commercial Photography from Newbury hits the National Press

Commercial Photography by Adam Hillier Photography based in Newbury Berkshire has hit the national press, appearing in The Sun newspaper on Monday the 19th September.

As a result of a commercial photoshoot for the forthcoming movie, Kill Keith, the team at Adam Hillier Photography set about photographing Keith Chegwin posing in the bright yellow suit made famous by Uma Thurman in Quentin Tarantino’s hit movie Kill Bill

Keith Chegwin was a great sport, it was a very funny shoot (the out takes would make for great entertainment), though most would agree that Uma Thurman would win the contest of who wore the suit best!! you can decide for yourself below.

The aim of the shoot was to capture the image to be used on the promotional posters and material for the Kill Keith film being directed by Andy Thompson. The image also features on their website www.killkeith.co.uk.

A Beautiful Wedding At Mill Hall, Newbury, Berkshire

After the rain and grey skies on Friday, people would have been understandably nervous about the weather for Kerrie and Tamar’s wedding at Mill Hall, Newbury, berkshire on Saturday. Thankfully the weather was more than kind, the odd ominous cloud loomed and then passed as quickly as it appeared – leaving a wonderful afternoon enjoying the grounds at Mill Hall which as always delivered some beautiful wedding photographs.

Kerry and Tamer, enjoyed a wonderful wedding ceremony at Mill Hall, followed by a wonderfully relaxed reception and meal before partying the evening away. Their two children shone and risked stealing the show with their lovely behaviour helping mummy and daddy enjoy their day.
